The Messenger (Courier) is responsible for operating a ServiceSource van to pick up and deliver mail and packages to mail stops throughout all EPA facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a National Agency Check and Inquires (NACI) Security background check required.
  • Valid NC driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation to perform work-related travel required. Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR) required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience and knowledge of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area Roadways preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in Mail/Postal operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive vehicle to deliver and pick up inter-office mail, documents, packages, and mail from an originating point to a delivery/pick up point.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks, including but not limited to, engine oil, battery fluid, tires, transmission fluid, coolant levels, etc. Ensure that employees/route listing, directions and maps are in the vehicle.
  • Operate postage machine and apply postage to outgoing mail.
  • Ensure the x-ray scanning of incoming mail and internal distribution items.
  • Complete daily mileage and time logs and accurately submit to supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean interior and exterior of the vehicle.
  • Screen, sort, inspect, and prepare mail for delivery.
  • Log packages on delivery sheets and prepare for delivery.
  • Operate office equipment (e.g., copier, x-ray scanner, barcode scanner, etc.)
  • Organize and file completed delivery records.
  • Sign vehicles and keys in and out. Accountable for vehicles that are signed out in your name.
  • Read and adhere to all memos and directives of the supervisor.
  • Transport office personnel and visitors as needed.
  • Complete accurate incident, accident and/or seizure reports as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
