Job Purpose and Impact The Merchant will contribute to handling a supplier base and fulfill transactions delivering commodities that meet production requirements and specifications in terms of timing, volume, quantity and cost. In this role is a vital player within the regional merchandising team assisting in managing our cash grain trading and origination. The Merchant II role will have direct responsible for sales, scalp, flex delivery, FOB truck, freight, margins and origination in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. They will have direct responsibility on management of contract exposure, credit and mark-to-market exposure. Merchant II will have decision making responsibility, P&L accountability and larger financial impact to the region. We seek a professional who will help buy and sell commodities from/to country elevators, producers, feed mills and processors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum requirement of 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Typically reflects 3 years or more of relevant experience.
• Ability to travel overnight less than 10% to visit plants and customers.
• Driver's license in good standing.

Nice To Haves

• Experience to understand grain margins, futures and basis relationships.
• Basic knowledge of production agriculture &/or livestock feeding.
• Experience to discover and identify customer needs and build customer relationships.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate and align functional areas including all product line merchandising, origination, operations, logistics, and finance teams to maximize asset utilization and earnings within the region via establishing game plans, offers, margin structure and objectives, ensuring efficient execution.
• Plan sales and transportation to maximize profitable use of stock and storage facilities.
• Research and analyze various freight opportunities in the marketplace to maximize margin.
• Work directly with customers, suppliers, and business counterparts to meet their needs in solving routine problems and addressing complaints and concerns.
• Independently solve moderately complex issues while referring more complex problems to a higher-level staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
