A day in the life of a Merchandiser, OTW and Energy Collaborations at Vans looks a little like this. As a Merchandiser for OTW and Energy Collaborations, you will work within the Global Apparel Merchandising team, focusing on our most elevated product categories and high-profile collaborations. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to deliver consumer-right assortments that reflect Vans’ brand vision and cultural leadership. You will report directly to the Senior Manager of Merchandising. Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Product Development, Business Administration, or equivalent experience in apparel and footwear merchandising that demonstrates strong product and market understanding.
  • Deep understanding of industry trends, consumer behavior, and cultural influences that drive product decisions.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) with experience in PLM systems; familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret financial data, manage line plans, and maintain accuracy across multiple seasonal milestones.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills to influence cross-functional teams and drive alignment globally.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and adhering to calendar processes.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative environment with Design, Development, Planning, and Regional Merchandising teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Location requirement: Hybrid schedule in-office in Costa Mesa, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Own seasonal merchandising strategy and line architecture for this category, ensuring alignment with brand vision and financial goals.
  • Develop global merchandising briefs by gathering and analyzing financials, competitor insights, line plans, and regional input.
  • Rank styles and optimize assortments based on historical and current product performance, identifying redundancies and opportunities for growth.
  • Conduct trend and competitor research to inform seasonal direction and identify new consumer-driven opportunities.
  • Partner with Design and Product Development to source and develop new fabrications; attend fittings and review product details to ensure design integrity and quality standards.
  • Maintain and update line plans throughout the season, ensuring accuracy and adherence to calendar milestones.
  • Prepare and present materials for key meetings, including line reviews and milestone presentations, driving alignment across global and regional teams.
