About The Position

The primary focus of the Merchandiser II is to assist the regions trading manager in trading the IL River, Burlington, and Gulfport’s CIF, freight, and spread positions. Other responsibilities will include managing the IL River’s barge logistics and execution, building and maintaining customer relationships, accounting, and customer related issues. The role involves participating in origination, trading and logistics, providing insight and discussing opportunities. It also requires daily communication with the operations group on loading plans, freight needs, and dump hours, as well as billing barges and sending out daily releases. The Merchandiser II will perform various month-end tasks such as the fair market value file, month-end estimate, barge freight market to market, and book to physicals. A key aspect is identifying and analyzing market opportunities through close contact with other ADM divisions and external customers, and communicating market information internally and externally. The position also involves maintaining a commercial customer list, developing strong customer relationships to enhance ADM’s business portfolio, and assisting in the development and training of new employees. The individual is expected to portray a positive image of the company and self when interacting with customers and colleagues.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Agriculture or related field of study
  • 2+ years of experience in commodity trading and or logistics
  • Computer competence, especially use of email, Future Source, AGRIS, IBM, and internal web based applications
  • Demonstrated capacity to excel in a fast paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and training of new employees.
  • Portray a positive image of the company and self when interacting with customers and colleagues.
