About The Position

Merchandiser II – Memphis, TN ADM River This is a full-time, salaried exempt level position. Position Summary: Reporting to the Regional Commercial Manager this is an intermediate merchandiser position which is a part of the merchandising team at the location.  This position, acting as part of the team, will be accountable for procurement of raw materials and marketing of corn, soybeans, wheat, and rice to export channels across our Midsouth network. This position will focus on learning the day to day responsibilities of a Trade Manager & Commercial manager to be prepared for those roles in their future career.  The position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with both internal and external accounts including handling of logistics, accounting and other customer related issues.  As a member of the trading team, this position requires a high level of strategic thinking, market knowledge and employee development.  A person in this position should be willing to learn and develop their trading skills and have the capacity to step in for trade managers as needed.

Requirements

BS/BA in Agriculture, Business, or related field of study
2+ years’ experience in cash commodity trading or related field
High competency in MS Office, and experience with ICE, AGRIS, E-ADM IDT entry, and internal web based applications
Demonstrated capacity to excel in a fast paced office environment
Strong negotiation and risk management skills
Desire to develop
Detail oriented in a fast-paced environment

Handles all accounting related issues in a timely manner to ensure good customer service
Attends internal training sessions to learn merchandising skills & systems
Works to make quick decisions in a fast market while accepting the responsibility to defend them logically
Develops a clear understanding of local, national, & world markets & trends
Aggressively makes outbound phone calls to deliver and receive timely market information
Price discovery and bid/offer maintenance to enhance risk management and pricing
Understanding of margin calculations & their effect on commodity pricing
Generates ad hoc reports (i.e. accounting, economic, etc.) to support location and management
Ensures the most cost efficient transportation and logistics
Understands the value of ADM owned transportation (i.e. Barges and railcars)
Develops a good working knowledge of freight spreads and competitor activities
Develops a clear understanding and working knowledge of ADM information technology systems
Understands and has strict adherence to corporate compliance policies & safety systems & programs
Ensures that individual goals are aligned with company goals
Constantly works on individual personal development within the company
Develops good understanding of local elevator operations
Works to attain positive, cooperative relationships with internal colleagues across divisions & responsibilities
