About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to provide on -site leadership for ground -up data center construction projects in the South Chicago region. This role requires deep hands -on expertise in mission -critical mechanical systems, strong coordination with General Contractors and mechanical subcontractors, and the ability to ensure all mechanical work is installed to the highest standards of quality, performance, and reliability. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in North America; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of mechanical field leadership experience in ground -up data center, mission -critical, industrial, or large commercial construction.
  • Strong experience supervising installation of major mechanical systems (chilled water, cooling, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units, hydronic systems).
  • Proven ability to manage mechanical subcontractors and coordinate closely with GCs and other trade disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, routing, and QA/QC requirements.
  • Excellent problem -solving, field coordination, and communication skills.
  • Hands -on, on -site leadership style with the ability to manage fast -paced construction environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hyperscale or multi -megawatt (MW) data center construction.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes, BMS integration, and mechanical systems startup.
  • Proficiency with field tools including Procore, Bluebeam, BIM tools, and scheduling software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily field supervision for all mechanical construction activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
  • Oversee ground -up installation of mechanical systems from site utilities and underground mechanical through interior build -out, equipment setting, and startup.
  • Manage mechanical sequencing, manpower planning, and work coordination with the GC and trades.
  • Supervise installation of major data center mechanical systems, including: Chilled water systems
  • CRAH/CRAC units
  • Cooling towers / heat rejection equipment
  • Pumps, piping, valves, and supports
  • Hydronic distribution, insulation, hangers, and equipment pads
  • BMS integration and control systems
  • Ensure that systems are installed according to design, routing plans, and mission -critical redundancy requirements.
  • Enforce mechanical quality standards for all installations, verifying piping layout, slopes, supports, torqueing, welding quality, pressure testing, flushing, and equipment alignment.
  • Ensure full compliance with project specifications, mechanical codes, and manufacturer installation guidelines.
  • Partner with safety teams to maintain safe execution of all mechanical work, including lifts, rigging, and confined -space activities.
  • Work closely with General Contractors, mechanical subcontractors, and other MEP supervisors to ensure proper system routing, clash -free installations, and on -schedule progress.
  • Attend coordination meetings, review mechanical drawings, and support real -time field issue resolution.
  • Ensure mechanical activities are aligned with electrical and structural schedules to avoid delays or conflicts.
  • Oversee mechanical system startup activities including flushing, pressure testing, functional checks, and equipment verification.
  • Support commissioning teams to ensure all systems are installed correctly and ready for integrated testing (IT/IST).
  • Drive completion of mechanical punch lists, deficiency corrections, and readiness milestones.
