About The Position

The MEP Field Manager II (Controls / Low Voltage) serves as DLB’s onsite field leadership representative responsible for supervising controls and low voltage infrastructure installation for large-scale mission-critical facilities, including hyperscale data centers. Reporting to the Senior MEP Construction Manager, this role focuses on daily field management, contractor supervision, installation oversight, and coordination of building controls systems and low voltage infrastructure including Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), SCADA systems, fiber and copper structured cabling, network infrastructure, security systems, and other integrated technology platforms supporting mission-critical operations. The MEP Field Manager II (Controls / Low Voltage) works closely with controls contractors, electrical and mechanical trades, commissioning teams, equipment vendors, and client stakeholders to ensure systems are installed according to design intent and meet requirements for reliability, integration, operability, and commissioning readiness. In hyperscale data center environments where controls and monitoring systems are critical to operational visibility and automation, this role actively supervises contractor field activities, verifies installation quality, identifies integration risks early, and supports issue resolution to maintain construction progress and system readiness. The MEP Field Manager II (Controls / Low Voltage) performs daily field management responsibilities with moderate autonomy while escalating complex technical or integration issues to the Senior MEP Construction Manager. This position supports commissioning readiness and helps ensure integrated control systems are properly installed, configured, and prepared for testing and turnover. The MEP Field Manager II (Controls / Low Voltage) will communicate and operate in line with organizational and client goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of building automation systems, electrical monitoring systems, and low voltage infrastructure used in hyperscale data centers.
  • Knowledge of BMS/DDC controls systems, EPMS platforms, SCADA interfaces, PLC integration, and structured cabling infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of commissioning readiness and system integration processes for controls and monitoring platforms.
  • Knowledge of construction installation practices for controls wiring, panels, instrumentation, and network infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of industry construction procedures, safety requirements, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of the importance of the Method of Procedure (MOP) process and work notifications.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies including OSHA, NFPA, and LOTO requirements.
  • Skilled in coordinating controls system installations across multiple trades and contractors.
  • Skilled in interpreting control diagrams, system architecture drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in identifying installation conflicts and supporting field-level resolution.
  • Skilled in documenting field activities, installation progress, and system readiness status.
  • Skilled in construction management platforms such as Procore, BIM 360/ACC, or similar tools.
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with contractors, engineers, commissioning teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze field conditions and escalate complex integration challenges appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting project leadership.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain schedule discipline in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to rent vehicles.
  • 75–100% travel across the U.S. unless assigned to an extended project (>6 months; typical assignments 9 months – 4 years).
  • Ability to relocate within 1–3 months if required (when 100% travel isn’t supported).
  • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, controls engineering, or related discipline
  • Five years of hands-on installation, controls integration, commissioning support, or field supervision experience involving controls systems, building automation, or low voltage infrastructure
  • Minimum of five years of additional related construction or field supervision experience, preferably within data center, mission-critical, or large-scale commercial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day onsite supervision of controls and low voltage system installations within hyperscale data center environments.
  • Oversee installation of BMS/DDC systems, EPMS platforms, PLC/SCADA interfaces, network infrastructure, fiber and copper cabling systems, control panels, sensors, and monitoring devices.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure installations comply with design documents, integration requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Coordinate daily work activities of controls and low voltage subcontractors to maintain schedule and installation sequencing.
  • Conduct field inspections and system walkthroughs to verify installation quality and progress
  • Coordinate controls infrastructure installation with electrical, mechanical, and commissioning teams to support integrated system operation.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and planning sessions to resolve installation conflicts and maintain construction progress.
  • Assist with sequencing of controls installation relative to mechanical equipment, electrical distribution, and equipment startup milestones.
  • Review drawings, control diagrams, network architecture documents, and specifications to support accurate installation.
  • Escalate integration challenges, design discrepancies, or installation conflicts to project leadership.
  • Verify installation quality for controls wiring, panel installations, network infrastructure, sensors, instrumentation, and monitoring systems.
  • Ensure field installations meet project specifications, sequences of operation, and commissioning requirements.
  • Support QA/QC inspections and maintain punch list tracking for controls and low voltage systems.
  • Verify labeling, documentation, and installation practices meet project and operational standards.
  • Ensure installations support accessibility, maintainability, and system reliability.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams to prepare controls and monitoring systems for testing and integration.
  • Support L1–L3 commissioning activities including installation verification, device validation, and system readiness checks.
  • Assist with preparation for functional testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and monitoring system validation.
  • Ensure control system installations align with sequences of operation and system integration requirements.
  • Maintain field reports documenting daily installation progress, inspections, and coordination issues.
  • Track contractor performance, installation quality, and issue resolution.
  • Support project documentation including inspection logs, test readiness documentation, and installation verification records.
  • Assist with document control related to controls infrastructure and commissioning documentation.
  • Identify opportunities and lead the strategic use of technology, digital platforms, and AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency through workflow automation, reduced manual effort, and improved accuracy in forecasting, documentation, reporting, and quality processes.
  • Support adoption of emerging technologies - including advanced analytics, data visualization tools, and digital construction management platforms - to strengthen readiness, quality assurance, and project controls.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure technology solutions align with DLB standards for data security, privacy, and operational integrity.
  • Promote a culture that embraces innovation, continuous improvement, and the strategic use of technology to optimize performance and scalability.
