About The Position

The MEP Commissioning Engineer is a senior level role focused on providing quality control and commissioning leadership for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection design and construction for a Data Center project. This includes but is not limited to development and/or review of scope documents, construction document review, on-site construction supervision. Candidate shall be able to observe work in the field and compare to drawings to ensure details are installed per the drawings and specifications. THIS CAN BE A HYBRID ROLE/ UP to 75% REMOTE and 25% ON SITE- THIS POSITION OFFERS PAID TRAVEL FOR THE ON SITE TIME PERIOD

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in the construction field or building mechanical / electrical commissioning experience.
  • Engineering design experience preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Commissioning Certification
  • Proven experience in MEP/FA/FP system design, installation, and commissioning, preferably within the construction or engineering industry.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting MEP/FA/FP design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and make sound engineering judgments.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on quality and adherence to project deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including project teams, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and procedures for MEP/FA/FP systems.
  • Proficiency in using software applications for design, analysis, and documentation (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, working knowledge of iPad type instruments and various M/E industry “Apps”.
  • Comfortable using common field-testing equipment such as infrared cameras, light meters, IAQ meters, etc.
  • Know plumbing and fire protection field and Commissioning requirements through experience and supplemental training courses.
  • Know electrical systems basics and have a good working knowledge of NEC for field reviews and Commissioning requirements/testing.
  • Solid/strong working knowledge/experience/background of control systems, BACNet, Tridium networks, and overall “systems” functional testing sequences, steps, procedures, and integration.
  • Knowledge of air and water testing/adjusting/balancing procedures and expectations.
  • Knowledge in fire alarm systems and integration.
  • Working knowledge of architectural, structural, civil documents to understand how the mechanical/electrical systems are integrated into the building.
  • Good understanding of Specifications Divisions and where to go in the various sections in coordinating responsibilities and various testing and documentation requirements of the project.
  • Understanding of the many common Codes for Building, Plumbing, NFPA (fire, electrical, etc.), Mechanical, and Life Safety.
  • Must be able to climb permanent and temporary stairs, ladders, crouch, kneel, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must also be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to utilize close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and have the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires regular use of hands for inspection purposes.
  • Must have a solid understanding of jobsite risks and know/adhere to appropriate safety protocol at all times.
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Frequently required to stand.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
  • Frequently required to wear a respirator.
  • Frequently required to work in confined spaces.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision; Distance vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • You must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including protective eye wear, hard hat, lab coat, gloves, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Must be able to safely access and traverse indoor and outdoor obstacles for site inspections, including climbing ladders, walking on stairs, catwalks, and other types of uneven surfaces where activity inspections are needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to assist in developing MEP/FA/FP design concepts, specifications, and performance requirements.
  • Review MEP/FA/FP design drawings, calculations, and technical documentation to verify compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive design reviews to identify potential issues, conflicts, and deficiencies, and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Monitor MEP/FA/FP installation activities to verify compliance with design intent, manufacturer guidelines, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify the quality of MEP/FA/FP installations, adherence to design specifications, and proper coordination with other trades.
  • Develop project specific functional testing scripts based upon standard forms and documentation.
  • Collaborate with commissioning agents to develop commissioning plans, procedures, and test scripts for MEP/FA/FP systems.
  • Lead the MEP/FA/FP system commissioning activities, including functional testing, performance verification, and documentation of results.
  • Coordinate with project teams to address any issues or deficiencies identified during the commissioning process, coordinating necessary corrective actions and retesting.
  • Conduct final inspections and acceptance tests to verify that MEP/FA/FP systems meet project requirements and are ready for occupancy.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop accurate and comprehensive turnover documentation, including as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and warranties.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements, emerging technologies, and best practices related to MEP/FA/FP systems and apply them to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development.
