About The Position

Emergency & Critical Care Mentorship Program This position is ideal for new graduates and early career veterinarians transitioning into ER or established general practitioners looking to make the jump to ER practice. One year of dedicated ECC mentorship will be offered in competency-based phases with a strong emphasis on direct case supervision, guidance and feedback with dedicated didactic learning sessions provided throughout the clinical year. Beginning a career in emergency medicine should be exciting and build confidence, not burnout. Our ECC Mentorship Program is intentionally designed to provide a safe, mentored transition into high-acuity, high-volume emergency practice. This program includes: One year of dedicated ECC mentorship in competency-based phases One year of employment as a full-time ER DVM contingent upon successful completion of the mentorship program Average of 13 shifts per four-week rotation Assigned mentor on every shift Gradual, competency-based autonomy High-volume, wide-variety case exposure Protected didactic sessions What You'll Learn ER triage and primary survey mastery Stabilization-first decision-making Communication in high-stress, time-pressured situations Efficient diagnostics and case flow Management of a wide variety of emergency cases and procedures What Makes Our Program Different Learning is expected — perfection is not Case-based, practical didactics Teaching is intentional and protected, not ad hoc Our mentors support decision-making in real time Progression is based on readiness, not time We believe excellent emergency veterinarians are trained, not tested.

Requirements

  • Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds from floor to table height
  • Able to perform duties that may require excessive walking and standing; frequent squatting
  • Able to work at all clinic locations
  • Incur risk of injury from animals
  • Able to work well under pressure and high levels of stress
  • Understands the risks of incurring injury from animals, radiation and drug exposure (chemotherapeutic, teratogenic, and mutagenic possibilities)
  • Hold a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine
  • Be in good standing with the Board of Veterinary Medicine
  • Hold a valid MN veterinary license
  • Qualify for a DEA license
  • Competent in small animal medicine and basic ER surgery, including non-traditional pets
  • Complete AAHA required 50 hours of annual CE, a portion of which must be non-medical
