About The Position

The Before and After School Enrichment [BASE] Assistant Teacher supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community. The BASE Assistant Teacher creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes all children and families while promoting and maintaining a strong educational program in accordance with the YMCA quality requirements. Since the program is before and after school, working hours are 6:45 - 9:00 AM in the morning and 3:00 - 6:00 PM in the evening. We serve four (4) elementary schools in the Great Valley School District: Charlestown, General Wayne, KD Markley and Sugartown. The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) was named a 2025 Top Workplace by The Philadelphia Inquirer for a second consecutive year. Requirements

  • A High School diploma or GED and 2,500 hours of service (2 years) of childcare experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Current health assessment TB test
  • Must keep an up-to-date DHS file
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • 30 credit hours of early childhood, elementary or related human services field education
  • 15 college credit hours and one-year experience related to the care
  • Current CDA certificate

Responsibilities

  • Maintain supervision of all students.
  • Provide a safe, clean, and risk-free environment.
  • Implement lesson plans and activities that encourage their educational development,
  • Maintain student records
  • Greet parents and children daily
  • report or direct parental concerns to the lead teacher or director.
  • Use positive guidance to support children.
  • Participate in annual required training at a minimum of 12 clock hours per year in order to be in compliance with all of the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, Keystone Stars and the Department of Human Services
  • Must keep an up-to-date DHS file
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
