About The Position

Provide instruction based on principles and sports psychology to enhance the cognitive skills required for ARSOF soldiers to physically and mentally excel while operating under high stress in ambiguous, high-risk, chaotic, and physically demanding environments. Instruction focuses on learning and performance which includes: mental skills foundations, energy management, attention control, effective thinking, memory enhancement, goal setting, planning and prioritization, leveraging learning styles, peer learning, study strategies, effective reading, and sleep for performance.

Requirements

  • Masters in sport psychology or sub-disciplines of intervention/performance enhancement, health/exercise psychology, cognitive psychology, and/or social psychology. Degree must be from a school recognized by professional accrediting organization, e.g., Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES), American Board of Sport Psychology, Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP), or American Psychological Association (APA).
  • Minimum of one (1) years' experience as a lead with one (1) to five (5) subordinate performance psychologists, researchers, or instructors.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an instructor or graduate assistant in an academic setting with groups of up to 100 individuals.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working as a sport and performance psychology consultant with individuals and small group/team (5 to 20 people).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Member of a Sport Psychology (or related) Professional Organization (i.e. Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), APA Division 47, North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA) or the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB).
  • Proficient with SPSS and other statistical and biometric analysis software tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide instruction based on principles of performance and sports psychology to enhance cognitive skills that align with the department’s vision.
  • Instruct on mental skills foundations, energy management, attention control, effective thinking, memory enhancement, goal setting, planning and prioritization, leveraging learning styles, peer learning, study strategies, effective reading, and sleep for performance.
  • Use simulation and wearable human performance technology and biofeedback COTS and GOTS to demonstrate performance enhancement principles and to personalize application of performance psychology techniques.
  • Serve as HP SMEs to assist in the integration of physiological and biometric sensors, and other technology to determine training impacts through Measure of Performance (MOPs) and Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs). This will include the use of a current synthetic training environment (STE) capabilities and future semi-immersive and virtual immersive capabilities training capabilities including AR, VR, and MR technologies. Coaches will work with Soldiers during individual and collective marksmanship training with simulated and real weapons (configured for use in the STE; no live ammunition) on the application of human performance (HP) skills.
  • Research, advise, and recommend learning and performance theory best practices and translation to practical application.
  • Perform statistical analysis, provide findings and input for oral and/or written reports.
  • Instruct Soldiers and Leaders on performance psychology techniques and their application to individual and collective military tasks and operations.
  • Assist developing and providing tailored programs and/or workshops Soldiers and civilians living and working in high demand environments.
  • Assist maintaining professional development programs to ensure implementation of current literature, academics, and best practices related to mental performance.
  • Provide academic performance consultation to Soldiers and students.
  • Perform instruction, training, and education in field environments and under seasonal and adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform instruction, training, and education in field environments requiring movement/transportation via watercraft, aircraft, and/or ground vehicular means.
  • Collaborate with multi-service, joint, federal, and/or designated organizations to share, research, and implement best practices of learning and performance theory into practical application.
  • Comply with company standard operating policies and procedures.
