About The Position

The Mental Health Worker position involves assisting licensed nursing staff (RN, LVN, or Charge RN) in providing and documenting patient care, including activities of daily living, for adult and geriatric patients. This role supports unit functions, maintains a safe and clean environment, and acts as an integral part of the interdisciplinary care team, communicating pertinent patient information to the supervising RN. The worker also performs some clerical duties and provides basic nursing care, adhering to Nursing Structure Standards, Hospital/Nursing Policy, and state regulatory and accrediting requirements. For outpatient settings, the role specifically entails carrying out activities of daily living programs and individual treatment plans for psychiatric patients under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing, RN, and Program Director.

Requirements

  • Must have current and valid license as a Certified Nursing Assistant issued by the State if a CNA.
  • If not a CNA, must have a minimum of one year experience working as Mental Health Worker in a hospital setting.
  • BLS within 30 days of hire and maintain current.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year prior mental health experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the licensed nursing staff (RN, LVN or Charge RN) in providing and documenting patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (Inpatient).
  • Support the unit functions and maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors and co-workers (Inpatient).
  • Function as an integral part of the interdisciplinary care team and communicate pertinent patient information to the supervising RN (Inpatient).
  • Perform some clerical duties as assigned (Inpatient).
  • Provide basic nursing care for the adult and geriatric patients (Inpatient).
  • Perform responsibilities within the guidelines of the Nursing Structure Standards, Hospital/Nursing Policy and state regulatory and accrediting requirements (Inpatient).
  • Carry out activities of daily living program and individual treatment plans for the psychiatric patients (Outpatient).
