About The Position
The Mental Health Worker (MHW) at UC Davis Health plays a crucial role in supporting the mental health and safety of patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. This position involves assisting professional and technical personnel in the observation of patients, some of whom may require continuous, intermittent, or video observation. The primary goal of this observation is to prevent harm to the patient and staff, ensuring a safe environment that minimizes the risk of negative medical outcomes. MHWs are integral to maintaining a calm and safe setting while gaining insights into treatment options and participating in the treatment planning process alongside nursing staff and doctors. In addition to observation duties, MHWs may assist with routine patient care tasks such as feeding and hygiene needs. They are also responsible for organizing activities and interactive therapy sessions, which require continuous observation of patients. The role demands a commitment to excellence in patient care, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt positively to changes in a fast-paced environment. MHWs are expected to demonstrate accountability and professionalism in all interactions with patients, visitors, and staff. The position is full-time, requiring a commitment to working on-site at the Main Hospital in Sacramento, CA. MHWs will work primarily during the PM shift and are expected to maintain a clean and safe hospital environment while documenting and communicating effectively with the healthcare team. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive the highest level of care and support during their treatment.
