The Solom Carter Fuller Mental Health Hospital seeks a compassionate, skilled caregiver to become part of a dynamic nursing team. The selected candidate provides programmatic direct care services to clients, assists in the implementation of rehabilitative behavior and recreational programs, performs client related housekeeping duties, attends client review meetings, accompanies clients to various appointments, and provides leisure activities to clients. The incumbent will serve as a role model for the Mental Health Worker (MHW I, MHW II and MHW III). Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): Administers adherence to Unit instructions and guidelines. Actively and therapeutically involved with patients. Communicates clinical urgencies/observation to Charge Nurse Completes required paperwork of the coverage. Regularly appears and actively joins in weekly team meetings. Works together with the team’s nurse coordinator, team coordinator, and the patient in the progress and updating of patient’s treatment plans. Accurately documents behavioral observations in the Electronic Medical record on each given patient before finishing the shift. Meets with patient and, in collaboration with the charge nurse, finishes the Milieu admission database, admission note, and the admission nursing care plan. Checks and searches patient's possessions and completes belongings checklist. Confiscates sharp and contraband (razors, matches etc.) according to Policy and Procedure. Is aware of importance of providing a safe atmosphere and has information of relevant Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety goals. Gives insight to RN concerning any safety issues. Asks comment from patients about safety. Shares in constant clinical supervision and in the performance assessment process by identifying detailed performance goals with supervisor. Seeks helpful feedback and supervision from colleagues for the purpose of improvement of skills and overall job performance. Offers constructive supportive, polite communication to patients, families, visitors, and hospital employees. Joins in the assessment process of the patient's treatment program in team meetings through precise and short reports of patient progress and suggestions for changes in the treatment plan and provides supervision for subordinate staff in this area. Facilitates the training and orientation of new staff to the role of PCG. Oversees team counselors on an ongoing basis. Participates in the ongoing supervision and teaching as directed by Nursing Administration. The DMH units within the Hospital provide inpatient psychiatric services to adults with serious mental illness with the goal of enhancing autonomy, safety and return to the community. Patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team, led by attending psychiatrists which also includes psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, mental health workers, occupational therapists and rehabilitative staff specializing in vocational, recreational, and expressive therapies. A variety of treatment modalities are used, including psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic (individual, group, and family), psycho-educational, behavioral, cognitive and milieu therapies.
