About The Position

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) performs direct patient care duties in a psychiatric inpatient setting under the supervision of a RN. The MHT is responsible for supervising the patient in treatment, recreation, educational settings, and other activities of daily living, and to access changes in their social behaviors and clinical status and report/document these observations. Additional primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu including crisis intervention, behavior management and assisting the patient with completion of assignments. The Mental Health Tech functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assess the functional abilities, impairments, and needs of each patient and to address these individually and through psycho-education groups. The MHT leads daily educational groups focused on essential skills patients need to manage their illness as well as their social environment. He/she documents clearly and accurately patient participation and progress. He/she is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team of professionals and contributes to the formulation of individualized plans of treatment, regular reassessment of patient progress to ensure maximum therapeutic benefit. He/she performs other tasks related to chart maintenance, environment of care, patient care and transportation, as required. The MHT works under the supervision of a licensed professional. Provides patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education).
  • Relevant experience in a mental health or healthcare setting (Required).
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification (Required).
