About The Position

The Mental Health Therapist I provides direct psychosocial and therapeutic care in collaboration with patients, families, case managers, physicians, and the interdisciplinary care team. This role includes conducting psychological assessments, identifying problems, setting goals, providing behavioral interventions, and implementing care plans. The therapist supports patient outcomes by addressing psycho-social barriers to care, engaging and educating patients and families, and delivering interventions such as crisis counseling, grief support, and abuse reporting.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Applied Psychology or a related field.
  • Maryland LGPC or LMSW required.
  • Ongoing training as required by licensure standards.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in a healthcare-related field preferred. Field placement may be considered as qualifying experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, regional, and national community resources.
  • Skilled in data collection, analysis, and decision-making for patient care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload effectively.
  • Proficiency with electronic patient records, email, and standard office technology.

Responsibilities

  • Complete diagnostic intakes in accordance with Joint Commission requirements.
  • Conduct full psychosocial assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Provide direct psychotherapy and psychosocial care for a full patient caseload.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and optimize outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on patient responses to medication; consult physicians as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely medical records and documentation per departmental standards.
  • Implement feedback-informed treatment (FIT) in clinical practice.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of community and referral resources.
  • Assist with referrals, guardianships, adoptions, psychiatric evaluations, and abuse/neglect or IPV assessments.
  • Identify needs for and facilitate family meetings.
  • Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds and represent the social work role.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide coverage for absences or vacancies and participate in on-call rotations.
  • Engage in mandated supervision per COMAR regulations.
  • Serve on hospital or community committees as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
