About The Position

The MHT (Mental Health Technician) at Behavioral Inpatient Hospital in New Orleans plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of compassionate and effective mental health care services. This position involves direct interaction with patients experiencing a range of behavioral health challenges, ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity throughout their treatment journey. The MHT collaborates closely with clinical teams to implement individualized care plans, monitor patient progress, and respond promptly to any changes in patient condition or behavior. By maintaining a therapeutic and structured environment, the MHT contributes significantly to the overall success of the hospital’s treatment programs. Ultimately, this role is essential in fostering recovery, promoting mental wellness, and enhancing the quality of life for patients within the hospital setting. We are seeking PRN team members who are available to work 12-hour AM or 12-hour PM Shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Mental Health Technician or completion of a relevant training program.
  • Basic knowledge of mental health disorders and behavioral health care principles.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet hospital credentialing requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in psychology, social work, nursing, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a behavioral health or psychiatric hospital setting.
  • Training in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and first aid/CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in English and Spanish, to better serve the diverse patient population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision to patients in accordance with established treatment plans and hospital policies.
  • Observe and document patient behavior, mood, and interactions, reporting any significant changes to the clinical team.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including hygiene, meals, and recreational activities, promoting independence and engagement.
  • Participate in therapeutic group activities and support individual patient interventions as directed by clinical staff.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment by monitoring patient safety, managing crises, and implementing de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to communicate patient needs, progress, and concerns effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.
