About The Position

The Mental Health Technician is defined as a member of the Mental Health Unit healthcare team who is accountable for patient care supportive services under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. As our Mental Health Tech, you will be vital support for Behavioral Health's front and back office functions, assisting psychiatrists, patients, and the care management team. You'll ensure smooth operations, quality medication management, and clinical problem-solving. Every day you will provide basic medication triage, support services, and take vital signs for behavioral health patients. You'll manage front office reception, patient registration, insurance/copay processing, and telephones, while also handling back office tasks like refill requests, injections, and accurate EHR documentation. To be successful, you need strong multitasking, meticulous attention to detail, and a rapid ability to learn complex information accurately. Exceptional customer service, calm under pressure, EHR proficiency, and strict confidentiality are essential, along with flexibility to float.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Certified nursing assistant, home health aide, nursing assistant, or direct patient care experience required, along with two (2) years of behavioral health experience.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Has the ability to read, speak and write English in order to perform the duties of the position.
  • Will maintain current competencies and certifications.
  • Ability to: Work as a team member; work effectively under multiple demands and adjust priorities as circumstances require to meet staffing needs.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and precision on a consistent basis in the performance of procedures
  • Treat co-workers, patients, physicians and family with dignity and respect
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all hospital staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Physically able to work, stand, stoop and lift.
  • Able to walk and stand at least 50% of the shift.
  • Good manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
