About The Position
This full-time Mental Health Technician position at Valle Vista Health System offers 40 hours per week on an adolescent unit, with a night shift schedule from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Valle Vista Health System, a leader in behavioral health care for over thirty years, is a 132-bed mental health hospital licensed by the State of Indiana and accredited by the Joint Commission. It provides comprehensive treatment for psychiatric disorders in children, adolescents, and adults, aiming to help individuals regain confidence and function successfully in their communities. Mental Health Technicians are responsible for direct care and supervision of residents, ensuring their safety, and assisting them in developing appropriate hygiene and self-help skills. They serve as role models, demonstrating effective problem-solving and decision-making, and facilitate recreational and therapeutic activities. Additionally, they transport residents to medical appointments and ensure the execution of scheduled programming, all in accordance with ANA Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Care and facility policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least 21 years of age
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field
- Six months to one year of experience working with a behavioral health in-patient population
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and supervision for residents
- Assure residents are kept safe
- Help residents learn and practice appropriate hygiene and self-help skills
- Ensure residents are aware of rules and expectations
- Act as a role model for residents, demonstrating effective problem solving and decision-making skills
- Assist in providing recreational and therapeutic activities for the residents
- Transport residents to and from medical appointments
- Assure scheduled programming is carried out
- Monitoring and intervening with patients for safety
- Ensuring structured therapeutic milieu
- Role models problem solving and healthy relationship skills
