About The Position

The Mental Health Technician at HCA Florida West Tampa Hospital plays a crucial role in providing basic patient care services related to behavioral health under the supervision of a registered nurse. This position involves maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, assisting with crisis intervention, and supporting patients in their daily activities. The technician will work closely with the patient care team to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, while also fostering a supportive and engaging atmosphere.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Certified Behavioral Health Technician preferred, with PCT training within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training required for Behavioral Health.
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 100 lbs, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in behavioral health.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic patient care services related to behavioral health under the supervision of the nurse (RN).
  • Assist the patient care team in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Conduct crisis intervention and support activities of daily living for patients.
  • Obtain vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, and calorie counts.
  • Establish effective rapport with patients and monitor their safety.
  • Escort patients and, if necessary, restrain them to ensure safety.
  • Perform bedside glucose testing and collect samples for lab as needed.
  • Assist the RN in collecting data from patients for admission and discharge preparations.
  • Provide a positive role model for developing socialization skills.
  • Coordinate and participate in group activities to encourage appropriate patient interaction.
