Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Certification as a nursing assistant (CNA) where required by state preferred.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Crisis management certification per hospital policy and standards required.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Mental Health Technician (MHT) is responsible for observing and recording patient information pertinent to the treatment plan.
• Welcoming new patients through specific admission protocols.
• Assisting with the patient discharge process.
• Maintaining direct patient observation.
• Leading patient education, community, goal, and activity groups.
• Assisting nursing staff by taking vital signs and helping patients perform ADLs.
• Responding to a variety of patient situations such as codes, behavioral outbursts, attempts to introduce contraband, and medical issues.
• Adjusting therapeutic approach to acuity, age, gender, and cultural considerations.
• Accomplishing job duties in a manner consistent with the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Voyages Behavioral Health.
