Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital has been providing psychiatric services to the Philadelphia area for more than 40 years. Located in Fort Washington, PA, our 146-bed facility provides a peaceful setting for those seeking treatment for mental illness. Brooke Glen offers unique and individualized programming for adolescents and adults that sets us apart from many other treatment facilities, and our tenured leadership team includes a seasoned nursing department. The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interactions, and role modeling to patients. This position requires working the night shift from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The Mental Health Technician is responsible for completing and recording vital signs according to hospital policy, utilizing sound judgment during assessments, and observing and documenting any changes in a patient's appearance, behavior, or ability to work toward treatment plan goals. They must identify and communicate changes in a patient's condition to the Charge Nurse, providing information that assists in the development and revision of the treatment plan. Establishing therapeutic relationships with patients is crucial, as is assisting them with personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and other needs through the discharge process. In addition, the Mental Health Technician employs appropriate crisis intervention techniques and responds appropriately to psychiatric emergencies. They must meet policy requirements in the use and documentation of seclusion and restraints, perform problem-solving and decision-making in a logical manner, and document in a clear, concise, and timely manner using appropriate clinical terminology. Knowledge and skills related to communication, environmental, and developmental needs of children, adolescents, adults, and older adults are essential, as well as knowledge of seclusion and restraint systems utilized with these populations. Other duties may be assigned by Hospital Administration as necessary for the effective operation of the facility.
