About The Position

Mental Health Technician - MHT Compass Intervention Center has an opening for a full-time, day shift Mental Health Tech (MHT). The MHTs play a vital role in providing excellent care for our patients and are a member of the interdisciplinary team who assists in total client care through implementation of appropriate therapeutic approaches. Compass consists of 108 bed behavioral health facility, Acute Hospital, and outpatient programs which span the entire continuum of care. Compass campus is located in Memphis, TN. Requirements

  • Education and Training: High School diploma or equivalent, Prefer bachelor's degree or college courses in health care, mental health, recreational therapy, education, or human growth and development.
  • Licensure and/or Certification: CPR certification
  • Experience: No minimum required, Prefer one year's experience as a nurse's aide, mental health aide, psych aide, or the equivalent in a rehabilitation, psychiatric, or similar setting.
  • Physical/General: Sustain physical activity and remain on feet throughout scheduled shift. Lifting requirements are 50 lbs and SAMA training is required.

  • Prefer bachelor's degree or college courses in health care, mental health, recreational therapy, education, or human growth and development.
  • Prefer one year's experience as a nurse's aide, mental health aide, psych aide, or the equivalent in a rehabilitation, psychiatric, or similar setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care within a multidiscipline team approach.
  • Maintains a safe, therapeutic environment.
  • Maintain accurate and complete data and records.
  • Intervenes with suicidal gestures, inappropriate behaviors, elopements, etc., using proper HWC technique.
  • Therapeutically communicate with patients. Assists in developing appropriate boundaries and helps to develop social skills.
  • Directs/redirects behaviors, demonstrating appropriate behavioral consequences. Responds appropriately to impulsivity issues as they relate to age specific criteria.
  • Recognize and communicate the physical and psychological status of the patients under their care.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
