Baptist Health Shelby Hospital’s Adult Psychiatric Unit is a 20-bed, secure inpatient unit dedicated to adults experiencing acute psychiatric crises. Patients admitted to the unit receive comprehensive care for mental health conditions identified in the DSM-5, with thorough evaluations provided by a psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner. The unit's multidisciplinary treatment team—including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, case managers, and recreational therapists—ensures holistic and personalized treatment. Key services include: Comprehensive psychiatric and mental health evaluations Medication education and stabilization Nutritionally guided meals Group therapy sessions Individualized, safe discharge planning A medical hospitalist is also available as needed.
