About The Position

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is a 595-bed comprehensive healthcare facility known for providing a wide range of medical services and specialized care to the Homewood community and beyond. Our bariatric program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) as a Comprehensive Center. The campus also includes the Women’s Medical Center, providing full-service care for women at all stages of life, including gynecologic surgery, maternity, and a labor and delivery unit with a Level III NICU. The center holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission. Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital’s Behavioral Health/Psych Department provides specialized care for patients across four distinct units: a 24-bed geriatric unit, a 24-bed adult unit, a 19-bed acute male unit, and a 21-bed acute female unit. Each unit is staffed daily by dedicated nurses and Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) who deliver compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges. With plans for future expansion and a commitment to continuous improvement, the department is actively seeking new team members passionate about behavioral health. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Maintains current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Must obtain and maintain current Handle with Care (HWC) Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • 180 days experience as Mental Health Technician, Psychology Technician, Psychiatric Technician, Behavioral Health Technician, Registered Behavioral Health Technician, Behavioral Health Specialist, Direct Support Personnel, Group Home Assistant/Paraprofessional, Correctional Officers, EMT’s, Paramedics, Medical Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, Home Health Aides, Patient Care Assistants, Certified Medical Assistants, Nursing Assistant and Crisis Intervention Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Documents observations on assigned patients in legible, accurate and appropriate format following hospital and unit procedures.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Assists with nursing education groups.
  • Completes assignments of AM/PM care, vital signs, phlebotomy, total milieu supervision of patient care.
  • Assists members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines; assist with admissions and discharges as assigned.
  • Demonstrates competency in unit specific tasks and skill as defined by unit specific competency list.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications throughout the facility.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Practices efficient use of supplies.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized unit.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
