About The Position

Koinonia Homes for Teens is seeking a qualified and compassionate individual to join their team as a Mental Health Support Worker (MHSW) in their adolescent residential therapeutic program located in Antelope. The program serves youth 12 to 18 years of age who have had early childhood trauma with mental health and/or substance abuse issues that require residential treatment. The MHSW position supervises the youth's day-to-day activity in the residential program, providing direct supervision for up to six youth as they complete their daily program activities, with the assistance of coworkers. Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age (as required by state law)
  • Experience working with youth (including but not limited to coaching, tutoring, mentoring, daycare, volunteering or working in a school), OR a bachelor's degree, OR teaching certificate, OR Alcohol and Other Drug certification
  • Compassionate individual with good boundaries who has a passion for helping at-risk youth
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Work productively under minimal supervision
  • High degree of integrity and confidentiality
  • Reliable means of transportation
  • Schedule that is flexible to meet work requirements
  • Complete a criminal background clearance through the California Department of Justice and FBI to ensure eligibility for employment
  • Complete a pre-employment physical and TB test
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Auto insurance
  • Ability to safely and reliably transport youth to medical appointments, therapy sessions, educational activities, and other essential services
  • Prepared to respond to crisis situations by providing immediate transportation to ensure the safety and security of the youth

Responsibilities

  • Supervise youth on outings, recreational activities and other vacation destinations
  • Supervision of youth
  • Transportation
  • Role modeling appropriate and positive adult behavior
  • Participating with social workers and youth in periodic group and individual therapy sessions
  • Performing routine household and grounds maintenance on occasion
  • Performing food services for youth on occasion
  • Preparing paperwork and reports
