About The Position

Under general supervision of the Director of Services for Persons with Mental Illness and Substance Use Disorder Services, provides clinical and administrative supervision for therapy services of all adults including those with Substance Use Disorder Only and children with mild to moderate mental health needs. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the unit and monitors service delivery for Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA) including facilitating collaboration with internal and community programs. This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support culturally competent recovery based practices; person centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his/her life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and a trauma informed culture of safety to aid persons served in the recovery process.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a mental health related field from an accredited school.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a clinical mental health or related organization preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant professional clinical experience in mental health treatment programs, serving both adults and children.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • A licensed master’s social worker (LMSW), licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and licensed psychologist (LP).
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership.
  • Knowledge and ability to demonstrate person centered planning practices.
  • General business skills and ability to manage a budget.
  • Computer competency, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, E-mail.
  • Ability to plan and organize work of self and staff and provide group leadership.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, minimum at college level.
  • Ability to organize and maintain data and information.
  • Problem solving and mediation abilities, including ability to effectively manage personnel.
  • Ability to maintain favorable public relations and provide community leadership.
  • Ability to exercise independent and mature judgment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Hearing acuity to converse in person and on telephone.
  • Visual acuity to observe persons served behavior, read and proofread documents and use EHR and other electronic devices.

  • Manual dexterity to write and to operate standard office equipment (PC, Keyboard, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, etc.)
  • Ability to lift and carry files and supplies at least 20 pounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, persons served and the general public.
  • Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze, and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action.
  • Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time.
  • Ability to manage stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or persons served.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision and leadership for therapists and other professional staff assigned to the team.
  • Monitors the clinical practice of employees including reviewing records, monitoring Person Centered Planning (PCP) practices, observing employees, reviewing and acting on statistical reports and coordinating service delivery within SCCMHA and other agencies.
  • Has an understanding of co-occurring disorders including substance use disorders and will teach and train staff to assist in providing evidence-based services as means to assist persons served to reach person-centered goals.
  • Has a strong understanding of mental health diagnosis and is able to inform staff of signs and symptoms associated with each diagnosis.
  • Proactively evaluate individual and overall team performance on a regular and ongoing basis; use collected data and information to make needed improvements, including adjustments as needed, to Therapists’ caseload and work assignments to maximize quality of care and staff productivity.
  • Conduct semi-annual performance evaluations for counseling team; proactively identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Screens and selects staff in consultation with Director and provides orientation and training for staff.
  • Participates in regular meetings with other supervisors to ensure appropriate utilization of resources, program plan, coordinate efforts across programs and formulate policies and procedures.
  • Understands the importance of integrated care and is able collaborate with medical professionals to assure that whole person care occurs with all persons served.
  • Encourages and monitors the utilization of evidence-based practices in the therapeutic process and
  • Follows up to determine reliability and validity of treatment used; makes recommendations regarding modification to services and services delivery.
  • Monitors and oversees compliance with the I-Spa (Medicaid 1915 State Plan Amendment) Waiver and the CCBHC, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic.
  • Carries a variable caseload, dependent on Clinical Supervision caseload.
  • Respond to participants in crisis, conduct evaluations, coordinate with additional services, including Mobile Response and Stabilization Services and Crisis Intervention Services and other resources and amend treatment plans appropriately.
  • Consults with other therapists and related professional and paraprofessional staff, as appropriate, in the performance of therapeutic and/or casework; refers clients to appropriate service agencies as required.
  • May serve as a member of various committees which promote the general goals of SCCMHA.
  • Advocates on behalf of persons served, displays respect and concern for persons served, encourages independence and personal growth.
  • Understands inpatient petitions and guardianships but supports self-determination principles and self-directed services.
  • Develops and implements policies and practices for the unit that assure that persons served receive appropriate services in a timely manner according to PCP principles and are treated with dignity and respect, at all times.
  • Attend leadership/supervisors’ meetings, in-services and conferences as appropriate for continued professional growth.
  • Facilitates monthly staff meetings and monthly individual staff supervision meetings and keeps appropriate documentation.
  • Assures all staff receive the required training related to their job.
  • Provides clinical leadership to support the implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision and core values of SCCMHA to employees and implements these principles in all duties of this position.
