About The Position

Under general supervision of the Director of Services for Persons with Mental Illness, provides clinical and administrative supervision to the operation of the State Facility and Forensic Intensive Case Management team. Collaborates closely with the Supervisor of the Centralized Access and Intake Unit, the Supervisor of the Crisis Intervention Services, and the Manager of Utilization Care Authorizations to assure that consumers involved through forensic, and consumers recently discharged from State facilities, receive intensive services which allow them to be successful in the community. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the unit and monitors service delivery, including collaboration with Saginaw County Mental Health Court program. This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support culturally competent recovery-based practices; person centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his/her life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumer in the recovery process.

Requirements

A licensed master’s social worker (LMSW), licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and licensed psychologist (LP).
Previous supervisory experience in a clinical mental health or related organization preferred.
Previous administrative experience preferred.
A minimum of three (3) years relevant professional clinical experience, in mental health treatment programs, serving adults with serious mental illness.
Valid Michigan Driver’s license with a good driving record.
A licensed master’s social worker (LMSW), licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and licensed psychologist (LP).
CAADC or must obtain CAADC within 3 years of hire.
Ability to provide clinical leadership.
Strong knowledge of the DSM V TR
Ability to teach appropriate therapeutic techniques to master’s level clinicians.
Knowledge and ability to demonstrate person centered planning practices.
Knowledge of addiction and the effects of substance use disorders.
General business skills and ability to manage a budget.
Computer competency, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, E-mail.
Ability to plan and organize work of self and staff and provide group leadership.
Effective oral and written communication skills, minimum at college level.
Ability to organize and maintain data and information.
Problem solving and mediation abilities, including ability to effectively manage personnel.

Ability to lift and carry files and supplies of at least twenty pounds.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, consumers, and the general public.
Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze, and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action.
Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time.
Ability to manage stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or consumers.

Responsibilities

Supervises a team of staff with a variety of functions aimed at providing services for forensic involved (Forensic Center, MPRI, Jail) consumers and consumers recently discharge from State Facilities serving adults with mental illness.
Supervises the Hospital Liaison to State Facilities working closely with other departments to develop new and creative community alternatives to hospitalization.
Supervises the Jail Diversion Specialists creating community diversion plans when appropriate.
Supervises a variety of staff (Forensic Coordinator, Case Managers, Peer Support Specialists, Psychologist) providing services using evidence-based practices to meet the need of forensic involved consumers.
Provides leadership and supervision to the Saginaw County Mental Health Court. Assures that all documentation and monitoring is completed and reported to the County in a timely and accurate manner.
Develops and updates department manuals for each position, to assure all changes and requirements are tracked and documented, assuring successful transitions.
Builds and maintains relationships with all involved with Mental Health Court to assure that the needs of all individuals are addressed.
Monitors the clinical practice of employees including reviewing records, monitoring PCP practices, observing employees, reviewing, and acting on statistical reports and coordinating service delivery within SCCMHA and other agencies.
Successfully trains staff in the litigation processes.
Organizes and provides relevant mental health training to staff and law makers.
Screens and selects staff in consultation with the Director and provides orientation and training for staff.
Participates in regular meetings with other supervisors to ensure appropriate utilization of resources, program plan, coordinate efforts across programs and formulate policies and procedures.
Closely monitors the use of State facilities and local inpatient psychiatric units collaborating with staff to identify appropriate diversions and step downs when possible.
Develops and implements policies and practices for the unit that assure that consumers receive appropriate services in a timely manner according to PCP principles and are treated with dignity and respect, at all times.
Provides guidance to staff in developing treatment plans that address co-occurring disorders.
Provides clinical leadership to support the implementation of evidence-based practices, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Psychoeducation, and Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment.
Provides consultation services to prisons, jails, paralegals, and the public as needed.
Perform research and analysis regarding behavioral science to assist staff in evaluating and developing treatment plans to prevent incarceration recidivism.
Knowledge of addiction and the effects of substance use disorders.
Communicates the mission, vision, and core values of SCCMHA to employees and implements these principles in all duties of this position.
