About The Position

As our Mental Health Specialist (PLMHP), you will have the opportunity to help youth and their families in rural Nebraska by providing behavioral health crisis intervention and prevention services, while working as part of an interdisciplinary team at our new behavioral health urgent care facility in Kearney. Schedule: Full Time, 1p-8p. Supervision provided by an LIMHP. Candidates who plan to obtain their independent licensure in the next 6 months are desired. The skills set we are seeking include crisis assessment that focuses on first session stabilization, provision of initial intervention skills, and brief treatment planning. The follow-up care or bridge care will be brief evidence-based solution-focused strategies that match the patients presenting issue(s) with the patients/families capacity to implement. Specific modalities might include: CBT, DBT, ACT, MI, crisis assessment, parent training, individual, group and family therapy. It will be essential that successful candidates are trauma care informed.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, counseling or related mental health field.
  • Current Provisional Mental Health Practitioner in the state of Nebraska upon hire.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record/driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years experience of providing supervised mental health services in a health care or mental health facility.
  • Experience in Behavioral Health services with children, adolescents, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional mental health services for patients and families in assigned areas of the hospital/clinics.
  • Enhances the psychosocial functioning of patients/families and evaluates mental health status.
  • Develops treatment plans and provides group, family, and individual therapy while under provisional supervision.
  • Conducts psychological diagnostic clinical interviews (DCI) and completes DCI documentation including a differential diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Completes and documents crisis assessment plans.
  • Collaborates with and facilitates multidisciplinary team discussions to understand the mental health needs of the patients/families.
  • Documents all clinical services in chart.
  • Formulates patient goals and monitors the progression of the plan of care utilizing strength-based interventions.
  • Provides appropriate patient education and documents in the patient's EMR.
  • Assesses high-risk individuals and families focusing on the safety and mental health of the patient/family.
  • Provides crisis/supportive counseling and coaching to patients/families.
  • Facilitates support groups as needed.
  • Gathers information from patients/families and shares appropriate resource materials.
  • Assists with follow-up and follow-through to ensure that quality of care is obtained.
  • Provides assessment and coordination of child abuse/neglect cases.
  • Prepares and presents cases to the Children's Advocacy Team.
  • Provides community education on selected mental health topics.
