About the position

Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) is seeking a Mental Health Specialist II for the Child and Adolescent Services - South Brunswick School Based Program. The primary purpose of this role is to be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team that provides comprehensive youth development activities, case management, and supportive counseling to students within the South Brunswick School District. This position is crucial in fostering the emotional and social development of students, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive both academically and personally. As a Mental Health Specialist II, you will take the initiative to engage students and their families in a tactful and supportive manner. You will assist clients in effectively managing crises, responding with clinical flexibility to their needs. Collaboration with school district personnel is essential, as you will identify appropriate youth development activities tailored to the needs of students and families. Additionally, you will design and implement workshops and activities that enhance the emotional and social development of students, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the challenges they face. Your responsibilities will also include assessing the need for supportive services for students and parents, facilitating referrals for these services on an ongoing basis, and documenting all assessments, interventions, and interactions in accordance with unit policies. Home visits may be required based on record reviews, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of the students' needs and circumstances. This full-time position operates on a day shift and requires a fully on-site work arrangement, emphasizing the importance of direct engagement with students and families in their environments.

Responsibilities

  • Engage students and family members in a tactful manner.
  • Assist clients in effectively managing crises.
  • Respond with clinical flexibility to client's needs.
  • Collaborate with school district personnel to identify appropriate youth development activities.
  • Design youth development workshops and activities that enhance emotional and social development.
  • Assess the need for supportive concrete services for students and parents and facilitate referrals for needed services.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and interactions with parents and students in accordance with unit policies.
  • Make home visits as indicated by record review.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Child Development or related field.
  • Active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work (if applicable).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Knowledge of child development (ages 5-18 years).
