About The Position

Dungarvin is actively seeking Mental Health Specialist 2 (MHS2) professionals to join their compassionate and dedicated teams across Minnesota. These direct care roles are designed for individuals with experience in mental health support and behavior management. Dungarvin, established in 1976, is a mission-driven organization focused on respect, response, and choice, providing person-centered supports to help individuals live as independently as possible. Employees will work directly with people needing assistance, including those with intellectual or developmental disabilities or other complex medical needs. The company operates in 15 states, united by a commitment to making a difference one person at a time. The Acute Behavioral Services (ABS) group homes specifically support individuals with complex mental health and behavioral needs, many of whom have experienced frequent crises, hospital stays, or legal involvement. These individuals often require a highly structured environment to succeed. The homes are specially designed for safety, and the approach is consistent, person-centered, and focused on helping individuals achieve their goals while maintaining safety for everyone. Staff receive comprehensive training in behavioral support and crisis response, including the use of manual restraints when necessary. The role may involve exposure to verbal aggression or difficult behaviors, with strong training and team support provided to ensure success.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years working with individuals who exhibit challenging behaviors (e.g., physical/verbal aggression, property destruction, or self-injury) in a caregiving, direct support, or similar role.
  • Must be at least 18 years old (21+ for certain sites).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health conditions (e.g., bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety) or developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to stay on your feet, walk, stand, and regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Basic computer skills for documenting care and tracking progress.
  • Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills are essential for documenting care, following support plans, and collaborating with internal and external team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), Behavior Technician (BT/RBT), or in other caregiving/mental health roles.
  • Experience as a Behavioral Specialist, Behavioral Technician, or Mental Health Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on care by assisting individuals with daily activities such as personal care, meal preparation, transportation, housekeeping, and laundry, while fostering independence.
  • Help with everyday tasks like personal care, cooking, and transportation.
  • Use proven strategies to manage behaviors and support mental wellness.
  • Maintain a clean and safe home environment while promoting a positive, structured routine.
  • Act as a role model, encouraging progress, offering support, and celebrating milestones.
