About The Position

Join Our Passionate Team as a Mental Health Specialist II (MHS II) at Dungarvin, a mission-driven organization rooted in respect, response, and choice since 1976. We are dedicated to providing person-centered supports that enable individuals to live as independently as possible. In this role, you will work directly with people needing assistance, including those living with intellectual or developmental disabilities or other complex medical needs. Our team, operating in 15 states, is united by a commitment to making a real difference—one person, one voice, one choice at a time. As an MHS II, you will provide hands-on care, support mental health and behavioral management, create a safe and welcoming environment, and mentor and guide individuals to achieve their aspirations.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience working with individuals who have challenging behaviors, such as physical or verbal aggression, property destruction, or self-injury in a caregiving / direct support or relatable role
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and 21 years or older for some sites
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Passion for Helping Others : Experience with mental health conditions (e.g., bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety) or individuals with disabilities
  • Physical stamina to stay on your feet, walk, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Basic computer skills for tracking progress and documentation.
  • Good communication is key in this role. You’ll rely on your reading, writing, and communication skills to document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with both internal and external team members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with daily activities like personal care, meal prep, transportation, housekeeping, and laundry, all while fostering independence.
  • Utilize your skills to help individuals overcome behavioral challenges, offering compassionate, person-centered care.
  • Maintain a clean, safe space that ensures comfort and support while helping individuals reach their personal goals.
  • Provide supervision, positive reinforcement, and guidance to help individuals achieve their aspirations.
