About The Position

This position is awake, overnigh t mental health worker. As an advocate for people, the MHS1 provides person-centered, recovery focused, trauma-informed mental health support in a residential setting. The Mental Health Specialist 1 (MHS1) works to support people with serious mental illness to handle crisis, manage medications and get ready for the day.

Requirements

  • High school education. Minimum 21 years of age. Rehabilitation Service Associate (RSA) as defined by DHS DMH Rule 132, Mental Health Professional (MHP) preferred.
  • 6 months e xperience working with people who have a diagnosis of mental illness preferred.
  • Computer proficiency required mastery and use of electronic healthcare records, Outlook, Microsoft Teams required. This includes logging in and recalling passwords and steps to document services. Daily use of a computer to document services is required.
  • Writing skills for documentation of services per regulations.
  • Ability to stay awake overnight.

Responsibilities

  • Support people in skill development and maintenance of mental health according to individual needs and goals.
  • Be awake on shift and ready to respond to crisis, including physical plant issues. Respond to medical and behavioral / psychiatric crisis in accordance with agency policy and procedure. This includes all related documentation.
  • Document service/progress notes using an electronic record keeping system(s) and complete recordkeeping weekly.
  • Meet all performance targets and document services using an electronic records system.
  • Facilitate medication support and document all related activities in accordance with related Medication Policies and Procedures using the Electronic Medication Administration Record.
  • Check emails throughout scheduled shift, review and document in communication log, and use of Microsoft Teams.
  • Assist members activities of daily living, grooming, and hygiene as needed. Support a healthy environment by motivating members to keep housing up to agency cleanliness and sanitary standards.
  • Actively participate in supervision and training for accreditation and Rule 132 / Rule 140 requirements. This includes attending a monthly team meeting during the day or afternoon time (required for compliance).
  • Clean the communal areas of the building each evening. Follow checklist.
  • Work collaboratively as a team with other staff to provide required services and support for members.
  • Promote consumer driven, mental health services and enhance the abilities of members to make choices.
  • Maintain electronic case files according to agency / regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all stakeholders. Address concerns and issues related to members and program services. Share information concerning members with other employees as relevant within confidentiality rules.
  • Adhere to all agency safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in both manner and attire as a representative of the agency in conducting all activities, services, and instructions.
  • Complete all competency-based training as required. Examples include CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)/ 1st aid, crisis intervention, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability), OIG (Office of the Inspector General), workplace discrimination, clinical MH (Mental Health) topics...)
  • Attend all training related to electronic healthcare records, documentation, and compliance.
  • Conduct and monitor safety drills and inspections of the physical plant as needed per schedule and Anixter policies.
