About The Position

In support of Kent State University’s vision and core values, the mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to enhance the psychological health and development of Kent State University students. Through the provision of an array of culturally competent and evidence-based psychological services, consultation with faculty and staff, and programming, CAPS staff contribute to the attainment of student educational objectives, encourage student engagement in the university community, and support students’ personal and professional success. As a comprehensive student counseling center, CAPS endeavors to create a welcoming and affirming environment that honors inclusion and values individual and cultural differences, striving to accomplish its mission through individual and group psychotherapy, psychological testing, crisis intervention, drug and alcohol programs, training of helping professionals, and outreach and programming for the university community. Requirements

  • Must possess the education and experience required to obtain one of the following: Licensure in the State of Ohio as a psychologist; Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW); or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours.
  • Licensure in the State of Ohio as a psychologist, LISW or LPCC, or Ohio license eligibility.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • KNOWLEDGE OF: Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • SKILL IN: Clinical counseling
  • SKILL IN: Verbal, written, and interpersonal communications
  • SKILL IN: Personal computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • ABILITY TO: Design and implement a variety of psycho-educational programs
  • ABILITY TO: Work nontraditional hours as required, including evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a university counseling center.
  • Experience counseling college and/or high school-aged populations.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • Experience and capability to work as part of a highly cohesive and multidisciplinary team in a university counseling center and with professionals in other campus units.
  • Effective interpersonal skills that facilitate organizational health.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate both face-to-face and telemental health services as indicated.
  • Participate in the provision of mental health triage services.
  • Conduct intake interviews, psycho-diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment plan formulation.
  • Provide brief individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy to students with a broad spectrum of psychological, academic, and interpersonal concerns.
  • Respond to high-risk clinical situations.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency services to the university community.
  • Administer psychological assessment, including intellectual, behavioral, and personality, as indicated by training and discipline licensure.
  • Provide collaborative care with a multidisciplinary team of mental health and primary care providers at DeWeese Health Center.
  • Conduct mental health and preventative outreach programming to educate students and the university community.
  • Offer supervision and seminars to CAPs trainees in accordance with training policies and procedures.
  • Provide consultation to university students and their families, faculty and staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Complete clinical documentation according to CAPS policies and procedures.
  • Prepare for outreach activities.
  • Complete report writing.
  • Prepare for supervision activities.
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education activities.
  • Follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, and HIPAA.
  • Attend CAPS staff, clinical team, and committee meetings.
  • Take an active role in the continuous improvement of CAPS processes and systems.
  • Participate in Student Life and university-wide committees.
  • Represent CAPS on the Kent State campus, in the State of Ohio, and nationally (as budget allows).
  • Perform other related duties as required.
