About The Position

The incumbent performs mental health counseling, assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, follow-up, and monitoring of clients treated for mental health issues. Applicant must have extensive knowledge of mental health disorders, therapeutic interventions, and working with families, adolescents, and children, demonstrate cultural competence and be highly skilled in best practice and evidence-based counseling techniques. This position reports to Mental Health Clinical Manager.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field required.
  • Meet certification requirements to complete suicidal and homicidal screenings, assessments, and interventions
  • Licensed Social worker, mental health professional, or other with two years post-graduate experience with demonstrated individual or family counseling experience.
  • Must have experience working within systems and collaborating with other professionals.
  • Department of Health Washington State License.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for automobile insurance.
  • Must have or be able to obtain HIV Aids Training and a current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and sign a statement of confidentiality.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required.
  • Certification to conduct suicide and homicidal assessments, screenings, and interventions

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a problem gambling counselor or be working to obtain this certification within two years as a trainee

Responsibilities

  • To provide outpatient mental health counseling services to Tribal Members, their families, and the community.
  • The mental health counselor will work collaboratively with other Tribal Community service programs and other regional agencies to coordinate treatment services.
  • Coordinate and provide the community with training and prevention activities to educate the community on mental health issues.
  • Education and skills in conducting individual, group, and family counseling sessions
  • Establish and facilitate recovery and support groups as deemed necessary by the Mental Health Clinical Manager. Some groups would include but not be limited to; problem gambling, domestic violence, grief, gender-specific groups, and/or Talking Circles.
  • Maintain client records, program records, and reporting according to Tribal, Indian Health Services, the Federal government, and Washington State professional standards.
  • As a team member, the mental health counselor will work collaboratively with staff, colleagues, the Tribal and local court systems, and all other agencies that provide services to the Kalispel Community and the community at large.
  • Ability to utilize standardized assessment tools and screenings to assess suicidal ideation and homicidal ideation
  • Training and ability to conduct mental health assessments and screenings to diagnose individuals properly
  • Adhere to all applicable tribal, federal, or state privacy laws and regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Attend training as necessary to maintain certification.
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Services that the mental health counselor will incorporate within the Camas Path Behavioral Health program will include but are not limited to outreach, intervention, mental health assessments, screens, evaluations, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, case management, aftercare services, advocacy, and information and referral.
