About The Position

The Mental Health Liaison/Counselor will work closely with the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and Directors of Community Schools and Special Ed and will be responsible for coordinating/providing student and family counseling services to assist the students in making appropriate decisions relative to school program and relationship with other pupils, teachers, parents and administrators.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a mental health professional preferred
  • Experience working with mental health agencies and service providers
  • Experience with children and families with special needs especially in school settings
  • Experience with, or knowledge of mental health/public health needs, service and promotion
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide culturally competent services to diverse populations
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License.
  • Ability to relate positively with children.
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff.
  • Strong Organizational Skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable, able to bring groups together for a common goal.
  • A working knowledge of computer technology.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate district functions/events
  • Experience working with mental health agencies and service providers.
  • Bilingual desirable (Spanish/English)
  • California State Mental Health License or License Eligibility authorizing the delivery of therapeutic services (i.e. Marriage and Family Therapist, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Associate Clinical Social Worker), or
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Licensed Marriage Family Therapist

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct therapeutic counseling support to students onsite and virtually if needed.
  • Maintain data/records of all students provided mental health counseling services.
  • Develop and implement parenting workshops for families of RCSD students.
  • Participate in all trainings and meetings related to services for students, as needed.
  • Share and report service hour logs and records to the Directors of Special Education and Student Services
  • Identify students in need of additional mental health services, and refer them to outside mental health providers for additional services such as psychiatric evaluation.
  • Work closely with outside mental health providers.
  • Assess clients for danger to self or others.
  • Provide prevention and intervention services, group and individual counseling for students.
  • Participate as key member of PBIS school site teams and other evidence based programs, as required.
  • Additional activities and responsibilities as agreed to and in conjunction with the Directors of Special Education and Student Services.
