The University of Alaska Southeast is currently seeking a motivated professional for the Lead Counselor position who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in a higher education institution setting. This position will provide direct services to students and coordinate crisis and emergency response to students needs. The successful candidate should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements. Education & Experience 1. Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or other related fields from an accredited program and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. 2. Appropriate state licensure and certification are preferred or the ability to get licensed in the next two years. 3. Prior experience counseling at a college or university preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Familiarity with current ethical principles, practices and standards of care for providing psychological services; working knowledge of State of Alaska mental health and child/elder abuse statutes; mastery of counseling theory and techniques, consultation skills, crisis intervention theory and techniques; training in development and effective presentation of outreach and prevention programs. Knowledge of local, state and federal statutes and regulations as they apply to disability services, including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Prior experience counseling at a college or university preferred. Special skills & knowledge: Demonstrated competency in written and oral communication. Experience with computer programs such as Word and Excel and other database management skills. Position Details: This position is located on the UAS campus in Juneau, Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .
