About The Position

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Department of Psychiatry (Child and Adolescent Division) has a full-time opening within its Prince George's School Mental Health Initiative Program for a Counselor, Senior Counselor, or Lead Counselor dependent upon the chosen candidate's qualifications. The selected candidate for this position is eligible for a sign-on bonus totaling a minimum of $3,000. Half of the bonus is payable within the first 30 days of hire and the remaining half is payable after successful completion of a 12-month probationary period. The sign on bonus is eligible only to candidates new or returning to UMB. The University of Maryland, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, National Center for School Mental Health Counselor position would provide a full continuum of mental health services and consultation to youth with severe behavioral and emotional challenges who are enrolled in Prince George's County Public Schools. The individual would provide a broad range of clinical services including: 1) assessments and evaluation, 2) individual, group, and family therapy, 3) crisis intervention, 4) teacher consultations, and 5) school-wide education and training regarding mental health issues. The primary duty of the position is to provide direct clinical services and school-based consultations, including clinical diagnosis and treatment plans, individual and group therapy, consultation with school staff, and professional development at the school site. The counselor is also responsible for maintaining patient records and completing other required paperwork. The successful candidate must be able to work under the supervision of a licensed professional (Counselor) or independently (Senior Counselor), interface with school staff and other professionals, and provide high quality care in a fast-paced environment. Requirements

Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology.
Licensed Master Social Work - (LMSW) or Licensed Graduate professional Counselor (LGPC) in the State of Maryland.
No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology.
State of Maryland licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C).

Masters degree in Social Work or Psychology
Two (2) years of post-advanced licensure (LCPC/LCSW-C) experience in area of treatment or related experience including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.
State of Maryland Board Approval as a designated supervisor as appropriate per licensure.
Licensed as Licensed Certified professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Maryland or Licensed as Certified Social Work (LCSW-C) in the State of Maryland.

Possess knowledge of best practices in the field as well as relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies related to children's mental health.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) and to understand implications of FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and state regulations. Ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population using best practice clinical techniques, approved interviewing techniques, and consultative approaches.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others.

Nice To Haves

Experience providing mental health services to children and adolescents and their families, and experience providing services to youth with disabilities in a school setting are highly desirable.
One (1) year of professional experience related to mental health services or programming preferred. One (1) year of direct supervision or responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others preferred. Experience providing mental health services to children and adolescents and their families, and experience providing services to youth with disabilities in a school setting are highly desirable.
Knowledge of the school system is preferred.

Responsibilities

Works under the supervision of a licensed professional and assist individuals and/or groups in identifying, understanding and decreasing the impact of social, emotional and environmental factors associated with illness, through the provision of a broad variety of direct social services and programs. Work under the supervision of a LCSW-C or LCPC when any care provision is involved.
Assess risk by screening and interviewing patients. Identify psychosocial condition and needs and determine the best course of therapeutic treatment
Evaluate, refer and counsel individuals, families or groups to assess needs and address issues.
Provide preventative, protective, or supportive services to individuals or groups who are in or threatened by situations detrimental to their well-being or that of the community.
Development of treatment plans for a variety of patient issues
Perform chart reviews and generates note on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports and other accountability measures.
Consult with and work collaboratively with case manager, other therapists, community partners, educators, and if applicable, researchers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work independently with individuals, couples, families, and other groups to help them to manage and overcome a range of psychological and emotional issues. With the client as a participant, use individualized treatment plans and a variety evidence-based practices and programs to help process and address feelings, and behaviors; assists with helping consumers to achieve social-emotional-behavioral success and well-being.

The Lead Counselor is responsible for programmatic, educational, or resources oversight. Lead Counselor uses individualized plans to provide mental health services and programming to improve the social and psychological functioning of individuals, families, or other groups and to maximize the individual's well-being. The Lead Counselor has leadership and supervisory expertise and responsibility within a designated program.

Evaluate, refer, and counsel individuals, couples, or groups to assess needs and address issues. Provides preventive, protective, or supportive services to individuals or groups who are in or threatened by situations detrimental to their well-being.
