About The Position

The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) position at Bright Road Recovery is a full-time role focused on providing support to patients in a residential eating disorder treatment setting. The MHC will work alongside therapists, dietary teams, and nursing staff to assist patients throughout their treatment journey, from admission to discharge. This role requires a calming presence and the ability to manage emotional distress, contributing to a supportive recovery environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.
• One year of experience working within the mental health, counseling, or eating disorders field, or two or more years of relevant experience.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Valid California driver's license in good standing.
• Ability to read, speak, write, and comprehend in English.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working in a residential setting.
• Skills in identifying and de-escalating emotional distress crises.
• Ability to integrate personal strengths and skills into the program (e.g., yoga, art).

Responsibilities

• Perform Q15 rounds, documenting patient activity and functioning in our EHR.
• Provide practical milieu support to patients.
• Communicate special needs of patients to the nursing and treatment teams.
• Serve as a positive role model for clients, demonstrating appropriate behavior and communication.
• Facilitate the treatment plan by providing day-to-day support to clients.
• Assist clients in utilizing coping skills and managing distressing emotions between sessions.
• Share vital information on client progress with the treatment team.
• Model positive dietary behaviors during meal times with patients.
• Maintain a tidy and inviting environment in the facility.
• Complete all required training and education activities.
