About The Position

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 1 underfilling a Mental Health Counselor 2. This position is at the Caliente Youth Center (CYC). CYC, established in 1962, is a staff-secure facility located in Caliente. The facility includes seven separate housing units for youth committed to the state for correctional care: five units for males and two for females. CYC has the capacity to serve youth ages 12 to 18.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Complete risk and/or suicide assessments.
• Complete documents and follow reporting chain for incidents as needed or requested by youth, family, therapist, or facility.
• Evaluate for and make referrals as needed for psychological testing, psychiatric evaluations, substance abuse treatments, and other specialized programming that requires a clinical referral.
• Provide weekly updates for the committed to changing program on each youth on caseload.
• Participate in biweekly admissions meeting and provide input on mental health needs of youth pending admission.
• See youth as regularly as indicated on the treatment plan and at the request of the youth, family and/or facility as clinically indicated.
• Provide contacts that meet the needs of the families and provide effective interventions resulting in positive outcomes.
• Support treatment needs through collateral activities.
