About The Position

To provide developmental and educational support to students, or other clients of the college, in the form of short-term personal counseling; to provide counseling services to students in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to the Community College mission and its diverse student population. Through a comprehensive, student-centered counseling approach, to develop and present structured groups for positive growth; to develop, monitor and provide in-service training in counseling support programs; and do related work as required. Ability to utilize a wide range of assessment instruments for personal, career, and educational issues.

Requirements

  • Masters level Counseling student in Practicum or Internship portion of their training that will work under the supervision of the on site LPC-S and/or Lead Mental Health Counselor.
  • Demonstrated experience using tact and sensitivity in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Highly-motivated self-starter who can take initiative and balance preventive and intervention practice.
  • Learner-focused leader with a deep understanding of and passion for student life and associated best practices in the context of higher education.
  • Ability to follow College policies and procedures.
  • General knowledge of the College’s mission, purpose, and goals and the role this position plays in achieving those goals.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be actively pursuing a Master's level Counseling program and be currently enrolled in that program.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of FERPA and HIPPA regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group mental health counseling services to the student/employee population, including evaluation, development and facilitation of support groups, and making referrals to external clinicians as needed.
  • Develop mental health programs in conjunction with the Dean of Student Services on each campus as needed and when directed.
  • Facilitate training and psycho-educational workshops for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with EAP staff to meet the needs of students and employees.
  • Maintain confidential clinical schedule and case files .
  • Attend ongoing trainings as required.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Should be committed to a culture of diversity, respect, and inclusion.
  • Other duties as assigned by appropriate authority.
