About The Position

Providing quality clinical therapeutic services to patient populations and their families/significant others. Serving as a member of the interdisciplinary team, supporting the organization's treatment program and philosophy and assuring the deliverance of quality treatment. Orienting and mentoring new staff to the unit. Providing clinical supervision to Master’s level interns.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or a Master’s Degree in a recognized mental health field or a A minimum of two years of previous experience as a Clinical Therapist or doctoral training
  • Possesses the skill set to supervise Master’s level interns
  • Knowledge of developmental psychology, disease pathology and clinical needs of assigned population
  • Ability to maintain information which is highly confidential
  • Ability to clearly summarize pertinent clinical information via written correspondence and medical records documentation
  • Ability to demonstrate self-control in volatile or hostile situations
  • Ability to set therapeutic limits and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintains therapeutic boundaries with patients during treatment and following discharge
  • Current State of Illinois licensure with a minimum of four letters or a Psych D which may include LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor), LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), or LCP (Licensed Clinical Psychologist) unless primary patient population is chemical dependency when a CADC is required.
  • Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of assigned patient population. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of the patients as well as the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.
  • Coaches and mentors new hires. Educates new employees on unit to clinical skills related to development of care plans, clinical documentation and understanding group process.
  • Provides clinical supervision to master’s level interns as designated by the unit leader. Monitors evaluation process of students to ensure accurate assessments of skills. Maintains professional relationship with the identified advisor at the student’s academic institution.
  • Actively participates on committees and councils as assigned.
  • Develops and delivers community education programs and workshops to enhance community awareness of mental health issues and resources available to address these issues; supports organization’s strategic marketing efforts.
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments by interviewing the patient and their significant others to obtain history and identify preliminary issues for treatment focus. Contacts appropriate previous and current tertiary caregivers to obtain relevant collateral clinical data that may be needed for the patient’s coordination of care, treatment planning and discharge planning.
  • Develops, implements and monitors progress of the patient’s individualized treatment plan. Provides individual, group and family process-oriented counseling sessions. Conducts educational, after care support and other didactic groups for patients and family members using various professional treatment modalities.
  • Participates in regular clinical team meetings/staffing and provides input on the psychosocial, disease management and case management needs of the patient.
  • Demonstrates an understanding, and adheres to all procedures and legislation, which apply to patients cared for in a Mental Health and Substance Abuse treatment facility.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of community resources (12 step support meetings, recovery homes and residential treatment facilities) and medical allied staff expertise to assure an appropriate discharge liaison is implemented. Reports to community/state agencies any patient issues that are required by hospital policy and state or federal law. Serves as the facilities representative in legal proceedings resulting from said reports.
  • Maintains accurate and timely medical records including psycho-social assessments, family session and daily progress notes to include school personnel and other community collateral involvement. Provides descriptions of therapeutic interventions and patient response for discharge planning process. Schedules, attends and documents court hearings as required, such as involuntary admission, guardianship, etc.
