About The Position

The Brook Hospital strives to set the standard for excellence in the field of behavioral health care and maintains its leadership role by treating each patient as a respected individual of the community. The Mental Health Associate serves as an active member of the clinical staff, maintaining a therapeutic relationship with all patients, assisting in the maintenance of a safe, clean, therapeutic environment, assuring patient participation in program activities, and performing technical/patient care duties relative to patient health and safety.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; some college preferred
  • No experience required; direct patient care experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred
  • Must maintain current CPR certification
  • Ability to gain training through web-based programs; participate in employee surveys; enroll in company benefits
  • Must possess excellent verbal skills in communicating with patients, coworkers, and visitors
  • Must be able to actively participate in a treatment team environment
  • Consistently demonstrates all Service Excellence Standards

Responsibilities

  • Knows location and condition of all patients at all times
  • Ensure proper hand off of clinical information
  • Performs safety checks daily and as needed per guidelines
  • Manage group of patients in outside activities; i.e., A.T., outings, walks, meals, and study
  • Assists in management of behavior and control of destructive behavior per facility guidelines
  • Recognizes signs of impaired social interaction and motivates patients toward desired cooperation
  • Teaches alternatives to destructive behavior
