About The Position

The Mental Health Associate I provides direct patient care to patients with mental health disorders. The Mental Health Associate I performs treatment planning and implementation while facilitating groups within assigned treatment programs. The Mental Health Associate I ensures the safety and well-being of these patients by maintaining a safe environment and documents according to department/organization procedures.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a Behavioral Health related field, no previous experience or a Bachelor's Degree or higher in a non-Behavioral Health related field with a minimum of one year of behavioral health experience.
  • Maintain information as highly confidential.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and willingness to seek supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology.
  • Skills in teaching or assisting with activities of daily living.
  • Prior experience with therapeutic limit-setting and milieu management.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates didactic, educational and unit/program community groups within the assigned treatment programs.
  • Encourages and facilitates patients' participation in therapeutic activities.
  • Supervises patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment.
  • Ensures patient safety by providing one-to-one supervision.
  • Conducts unit rounds and completes precautions records in real time.
  • Orients new patients to unit, program and milieu by establishing a rapport with patients and families.
  • Provides appropriate hand off information when accepting or receiving borders from other units.
  • Participates in treatment planning by working with interdisciplinary team to identify patients' problems, needs and strengths.
  • Completes patient, program, and department documentation.
  • Performs various clerical and administrative assignments to support department operations.
  • Monitors and reports patients' progress and communicates information to charge person on assigned shift and family members.
