Requirements

  • The Mental Health Aide provides direct care to adolescents and adult patients with psychiatric disorders to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients .
  • MHAs have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient's safety on the unit.
  • MHAs are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and avoiding seclusion and restraint whenever possible.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and monitors patients with daily living activities.
  • Assists and monitors patients at all times .
  • Provides adequate staff supervision and escorts patients to and from the unit in a safe, orderly manner.
  • Interacts therapeutically with the patients in one to one -situation , community and group meetings.
  • Consistently demonstrates an alert, sensitive and supportive attitude with patients, families, employees and management.
  • Inventories and secures patient's belongings including valuables and hazards with appropriate documentation on admission.
  • Recognizes subtle deviation on patient's affect, behavior and conversation, as well as changes in the patient's physical condition and reports these to the Unit Nurse.
  • Provides written rules and explains regulations to patients upon admission . Knows and can explain contents of patient handbook
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
