About The Position

The Mental Health Aide (PRN) at Laurel Heights Hospital plays a crucial role in providing compassionate care to children and adolescents with psychiatric and behavioral disorders, including autism. This position involves direct patient care under the supervision of a clinical team, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment while assisting individuals with daily living skills and personal hygiene. The role requires a commitment to working every other weekend and the ability to respond to medical issues and maintain patient health records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required; BA or BS Degree in a related mental health field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with behavioral health patients, children, adolescents, and/or special needs population strongly preferred.
  • One year of experience in a mental health setting preferred.
  • Successful completion of CPR certification and age-specific training within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of the clinical team.
  • Facilitate a therapeutic and safe environment through appropriate interaction with clients.
  • Assist individuals with personal hygiene and appearance, including tooth brushing, bathing, and dressing appropriately for weather conditions.
  • Monitor and report changes in individuals' health and medication issues to supervisors.
  • Carry out safety, meal preparation, and cleaning procedures.
  • Assist patients in getting out of bed and performing daily living activities.
  • Maintain all patient health data and records accurately.
  • Guide and assist individuals in learning daily living skills both at home and in the community.
  • Perform Q15 observation rounds while adhering to ethical boundaries.
  • Work closely with education, recreation therapy, BCBA, and RBT.
  • Assist the teacher in the classroom as an instructional aide.
