Assistantships are a common pre-requisite for high-level administration opportunities. They are also a common pre-requisite for management positions in athletics, higher education, or in businesses involving athletics including the collegiate, interscholastic, and youth levels. The programs that best complement this position are: Master of Arts in Higher Education Leadership Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership Master of Arts in Professional and Creative Writing Master of Arts in Sports Leadership Master of Business Administration ( MBA ) Master of Human Resource Management Students in a Leadership program will create solutions, discover new leadership ideas and skills, and develop the ability to engage and motivate others. The GA will gain experience in relationship development within different populations including but not limited to recruits, current student-athletes, alumni, coaches and other professionals in various departments across campus. A student in the Liberal Studies program will develop skills in event management for competitions, marketing and promotions, leadership, communication and decision-making experiences through exposure to students, administration, and visiting colleges. An MBA student will learn budget projections, operations, and supervision and leadership of student employees. The GA will gain experience in relationship development within different populations including, but not limited to, recruits, current student-athletes, alumni, coaches and other professionals in various departments across campus. A student in the HR Management program will learn hiring, leadership, training, retention, and timecards for student workers, and participate in hiring officials. Additional duties will be set according to the strengths of the GA and the needs of the teams. These programs are nationally competitive highlighted by 31-combined NCAA National Team Championships (19 in Cross Country, 12 in Track & Field). The GA will be mentored by the best this sport has to offer. In the course of performing the duties described above, the GA will be immersed in a tradition and culture of excellence to support the Men’s Cross-Country and Track & Field programs’ continuing mission “To Build Winners in Life.” Our “Run for Fun and Personal Best” philosophy exemplifies the approach that every student-athlete has the opportunity to reach their potential and beyond. A major role of the GA is to recruit a diverse body of student-athletes seeking to become the best version of themselves. Position Summary: This position reports directly to the Head Coach for Cross Country, under the direction of the Director of Athletics. Athletics plays an important role in the life of the campus, including, but not limited to, the following: enhancing the learning experience for student-athletes, creating opportunities for uniting the campus community, publicly demonstrating the College’s values and mission, and contributing to the achievement of the College’s enrollment goals. This position will be active in supporting the College’s Mission and Vision, and will strictly adhere to NCAA , CCIW , and Institutional rules.
