About The Position

The Memory Care Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the memory care unit within a senior living community. This role involves providing leadership and direction to ensure the highest quality of care for residents living with Alzheimer's, dementia, and other memory-related conditions. The Memory Care Director works closely with staff, families, and other departments to create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for residents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, healthcare administration, or related field (preferred).
  • Certification in dementia care (CADDCT, CDP, or similar) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior living, long-term care, or memory care setting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of dementia-related disorders and best practices in memory care.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with residents, families, and staff in a compassionate and professional manner.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to senior care.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and mentor the memory care staff, ensuring they adhere to best practices in memory care.
  • Develop staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and effective resident care.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Lead team meetings to discuss resident needs, care updates, and operational issues.
  • Foster a compassionate, team-oriented environment.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of individualized care plans for each resident, in collaboration with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Monitor resident progress and adjust care plans as needed.
  • Work with families to provide updates and address concerns about their loved one's care.
  • Ensure all care is provided in compliance with state regulations and company standards.
  • Create and manage therapeutic programs that promote cognitive function, socialization, and physical well-being for residents.
  • Organize and oversee recreational activities tailored to residents with dementia or memory loss.
  • Introduce innovative strategies to enhance residents' quality of life, ensuring activities are meaningful and personalized.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of resident care, including assessments, care plans, and progress notes.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including those related to medication management, safety, and resident rights.
  • Participate in state and federal audits, inspections, and surveys.
  • Act as a liaison between families and the care team, providing updates and addressing questions or concerns.
  • Offer guidance and resources to families on the challenges of caring for a loved one with memory loss.
  • Organize educational sessions and support groups for families and caregivers.
  • Manage the daily operations of the memory care unit, ensuring smooth functioning and resident satisfaction.
  • Monitor the budget for the memory care unit, ensuring resources are appropriately allocated.
  • Ensure the facility environment is safe, clean, and conducive to the well-being of residents.
