About The Position

Bridgeway Park Lansing Senior Living Facility is looking for an experienced Memory Care Director. Position Summary The Memory Care Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the Impressions memory care program. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality care for residents with dementia and cognitive impairments. The Memory Care Director is tasked with providing guidance and leadership to the caregiving team, ensuring the completion of educational training, regular assessments (including Mini-Mental State Exams), family communication, and mentoring. This position also facilitates direct communication between residents, families, leadership and the caregiving team to enhance the overall experience and care in our memory care community

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory experience in long-term care or memory care settings.
  • Experience with dementia care programs and knowledge of cognitive impairments essential.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion and patience.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Experience with family communication and education.
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience with care documentation systems.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have current TB test and physical (if required).

Nice To Haves

  • Dementia care certification (or equivalent) preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certified (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Impressions program, ensuring proper implementation and adherence by the caregiving team.
  • Oversee and guide the use of Mini-Mental State Exams (MMSE) to assign fingerprint colors to residents, ensuring appropriate care approaches based on cognitive levels.
  • Provide hands-on training and mentoring to caregiving staff, including Resident Assistants and Med Techs, with initial simulated dementia training.
  • Conduct regular debrief sessions after behavioral situations to promote learning and share best practices.
  • Ensure completion of pre-made monthly educational materials and keep staff updated on latest memory care practices.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for families, maintaining open communication, addressing concerns, and providing regular updates on resident progress.
  • Support families in understanding changes in their loved one's condition, offering comfort and guidance as needed.
  • Oversee resident care plans, ensuring staff follow appropriate interventions based on fingerprint color.
  • Assist with all daily care tasks, including meals and activities if needed.
  • Monitor residents for distress or discomfort, using validation and redirection techniques for managing challenging behaviors.
  • Work closely with leadership to ensure smooth operations, clear communication, and effective care coordination.
  • Assist in assessing staffing needs and adjusting schedules for adequate coverage.
  • Maintain accurate documentation on resident care, staff performance, and significant behavioral or health changes.
  • Report incidents, concerns, or improvements to management and take appropriate actions.
  • Conduct regular rounds to monitor overall staffing quality satisfaction.
  • Reinforce performance and behavioral expectations according to performance management strategy and company policies and procedures.
