Memory Care Activities/Life Enrichment Assistant
About The Position
Iris Memory Care of Edmond is seeking a Life Enrichment Assistant to engage residents in leisure activities that are of interest to them. This position involves assisting residents with socializing, completing crafts, dancing, singing, cooking recipes, gardening, accompanying them on excursions, and being involved in and completing life enriching activities, both scheduled monthly and impromptu. The role is described as incredibly fun, rewarding, and important. Iris Memory Care of Edmond is a small, freestanding memory care assisted living community located off of John Kilpatrick Turnpike at the corner of 122nd and MacArthur. All residents are coping with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, and it is an age-in-place community, meaning care is provided throughout the spectrum of the disease. This is a full-time position, and weekend availability is required. The rate of pay is $15 per hour.
Requirements
- Experience in some kind of human services industry: early childhood education, youth groups or camps, Girls/Boys Scouts troop leader, support of individuals with disabilities, autism services, etc.
- An upbeat and energetic personality
- Emotional maturity (described as being "an old soul" or "very comfortable in their own skin")
- Willingness to work weekends
- Feel at home working with and building relationships with the elderly
- Preferably have a solid history of reliability
- Willingness to learn about dementia if no prior experience
- Well-rounded, balanced, and productive team player
- Mature, patient, creative, nurturing, compassionate personality, with lots of energy
- Ability to closely follow direction
- Strong organizational skills
